Homemade Angel Biscuits

 


Ingredients:


5 cups all-purpose flour


1/4 cup sugar


3 teaspoons baking powder


1 teaspoon baking soda


1 teaspoon salt


1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes


1/2 cup shortening


2 teaspoons active dry yeast


1/4 cup warm water


2 cups buttermilk


Directions:


In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set it aside.

In a large bowl, blend flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Cut in butter and shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.


Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk, stirring just until the dough comes together.


On a floured surface, gently knead the dough 3-4 times.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch and cut with a biscuit cutter.


Place the cut biscuits on a baking sheet and let them rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.


Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
