Ingredients:
For the Patty Melts:
1 pound ground beef
Half a loaf of rye bread
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
6 slices cheddar cheese
6 slices provolone cheese
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For the Secret Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons chopped bacon
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
Instructions:
Prepare the Beef Patties:
Divide the ground beef into three equal portions and shape them into flat patties that match the size of the bread slices.
Season both sides of the patties with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Prepare the Secret Sauce:
In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon, ketchup, sugar, and paprika. Mix well and set aside.
Assemble the Patty Melts:
Wipe the skillet clean and reduce the heat to medium.
Brush melted butter on one side of each bread slice.
Toast three bread slices in the skillet, buttered side down, until golden brown.
On each toasted bread slice, layer two slices of provolone cheese, a beef patty, and two slices of cheddar cheese.
Spread a layer of the secret sauce on the non-buttered side of the remaining three bread slices.
Place the sauce-side down on top of the cheese-topped patties.
Cook until the bottom bread slices are toasted and the cheese is melted.
Flip the sandwiches and toast the other side until golden brown.
Serve:
Remove the patty melts from the skillet and cut in half diagonally.
Serve hot with any remaining secret sauce on the side for dipping.
