Homemade Angel Biscuits

Instructions:

Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Prepare the Dough:

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, ¼ cup sugar, and salt.

Cut in the cold butter and shortening using a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the yeast mixture and buttermilk until the dry ingredients are moistened.

Chill the Dough:

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 5 days for better flavor.

Preheat & Shape:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead 3–4 times. If sticky, sprinkle with a little more flour.

Roll out to ¾-inch thickness, fold in half, then roll out again to the same thickness.

Cut out biscuits using a 2½ to 3-inch round cutter.

Bake the Biscuits:

Place biscuits in a greased 10–12 inch cast iron skillet or on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they touch slightly.

Brush with half of the melted butter.

Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.

Brush with the remaining melted butter and serve warm.

Enjoy!
