Garlic and Vinegar: A Powerful Natural Repellent Against Flies and Cockroaches

How to Make a Garlic and Vinegar Repellent Spray

Ingredients:

✔️ 1 whole garlic bulb

✔️ 1 cup of white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

✔️ 1 cup of water

✔️ 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap (optional, helps the mixture stick to surfaces)

✔️ Spray bottle

✔️ Strainer or cheesecloth

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Garlic Extract

• Separate the garlic cloves from the bulb and peel them.

• Crush or finely chop the cloves to release their natural oils and active compounds.

• Place the crushed garlic in a bowl and pour ½ cup of warm water over it.

• Let it sit for at least 12 hours (or overnight) to infuse the water with its strong scent.

Step 2: Mix with Vinegar

• Strain the garlic-infused water using a fine strainer or cheesecloth to remove solid pieces.

• Pour the strained garlic water into a spray bottle.

• Add 1 cup of vinegar to the spray bottle.

• Add another ½ cup of plain water to dilute the mixture slightly.

Step 3: Enhance the Effectiveness

• Add 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap to the mixture. This helps the spray stick to surfaces where pests may crawl.

• Shake the bottle well to combine all ingredients.

How to Use the Spray?

🔹 Spray in High-Risk Areas: Apply the mixture around garbage bins, kitchen counters, sinks, doorways, and windows where flies and cockroaches tend to gather.

🔹 Reapply Regularly: Since natural repellents fade over time, spray the mixture every 2–3 days, especially after cleaning.

🔹 Avoid Food Contact: While natural, the strong odor may linger, so avoid spraying directly on food or dining surfaces.

Additional Tips for Pest Prevention

✅ Keep your home clean: Regularly wipe down surfaces, dispose of garbage, and eliminate food crumbs.

✅ Seal food containers: Store food in airtight containers to reduce attractants.

✅ Fix leaks: Cockroaches thrive in damp areas, so repair any water leaks.

✅ Use citrus peels: Cockroaches dislike citrus scents, so placing lemon or orange peels in corners can help.

Conclusion

Using garlic and vinegar spray is a natural, safe, and effective way to repel flies and cockroaches without harmful chemicals. With regular application and proper hygiene, you can keep your home pest-free while ensuring a healthier environment for your family.
