Homemade Swiss Rolls

👩‍🍳 How to Make Swiss Rolls

1. Start the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the milk, sugar, and butter. Whisk until smooth. Add in the eggs and crumbled yeast, mixing again until well blended.

2. Add Dry Ingredients:
Stir in the flour and a pinch of salt. Continue mixing until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. It should be slightly sticky but hold together.

3. First Rise:
Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, or until it doubles in size.

4. Divide the Dough:
Once risen, transfer the dough to a floured surface. Divide it into 8 even portions and gently shape each into a round ball.

5. Second Rise:
Place the balls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Leave space between each roll. Let them rise again for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until doubled in size once more.

6. Prepare for Baking:
Using a sharp knife, make a gentle slit down the center of each roll. Brush the tops with beaten egg. In a small bowl, mix the orange blossom water with the sugar, then spoon a bit into each slit.

7. Bake:
Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F). Bake the rolls on the lowest rack for about 10 minutes, or until golden and puffed.

🍊 Pro Tip:

For extra depth, lightly toast the sugar-orange blossom mixture before using, or sprinkle a few crushed almonds for texture.
