Amish Cabbage Noodles
Instructions
- Cook the noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside. - Sauté the onion
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until soft and translucent. - Add the cabbage
Stir in the chopped cabbage and remaining butter. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage becomes tender and slightly golden—about 15–20 minutes. - Season well
Add salt and pepper to taste. If using bacon, stir it in at this stage. - Combine with noodles
Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and gently toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through. - Serve warm
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately while warm and buttery.
Tips for the Best Results
- Don’t rush the cabbage: Let it cook down slowly to develop its natural sweetness
- Use wide egg noodles for better texture and bite
- Add a splash of broth if the mixture feels dry while cooking
- Try a pinch of garlic or paprika for a subtle twist
