Valerie Bertinelli reveals that she tested positive for…

Beloved television host, author, and celebrity chef Valerie Bertinelli has always been remarkably open with her audience, treating her followers less like fans and more like close friends gathered around a kitchen table. Recently, she took that trademark vulnerability to a new level by sharing a deeply personal health update on social media.

While the headline-grabbing phrasing of "testing positive" often makes people assume a physical ailment, Bertinelli used her platform to spotlight a different, equally critical side of wellness: mental health.

In an emotional and raw video update, Bertinelli revealed that she had experienced a massive, terrifying anxiety attack—an incident that left her body in overdrive, weeping uncontrollably, and dealing with intense physical tremors.

"My Body and My Mind Felt Under Attack"

For many who see Bertinelli’s bright smile on television, it can be easy to forget that she navigates the same invisible mental health struggles as anyone else. In her post, she explained that while these types of episodes have thankfully become much less frequent for her over the years, this particular one caught her completely by surprise.

She detailed the frightening physical reality of the experience:

  • Uncontrollable crying that lasted for several hours

  • Severe physical shaking and trembling in her hands—an after-effect she bravely showed on camera to let others see the tangible, physical toll of severe anxiety.

"I almost dissociate and am focused solely on calming down and finding any road to a more relaxed and peaceful body," she wrote, describing the frightening disconnect between mind and body. "Because I know it’s just my brain overthinking and catastrophizing, but my body goes into overdrive and I have no control over it."
