3. It Causes Costly Door Damage

Oven doors are carefully balanced on a set of heavy-duty springs and hinges designed to handle the specific weight of the door itself.

While a single, dry tea towel doesn't weigh much, repeatedly pulling down on the handle to use the towel—or hanging heavy, damp towels there—puts continuous downward leverage on the handle. Over time, this can loosen the handle screws, warp the door alignment, or strain the hinges so that the oven no longer seals completely flat. A poor seal means heat escapes, forcing your oven to work harder and driving up your energy bill.

4. It’s an Underestimated Fire Hazard

It feels like common sense to keep flammable fabric away from an open flame, but the oven handle feels "safe" because it's on the outside.

However, accidents happen in a split second. If you have a towel with long, hanging corners, it can easily catch on an open dishwasher door below it, get caught in the oven door itself when closed, or accidentally drape over the edge of a hot cooktop if you have a slide-in range. Better Places to Hang Your Tea Towels

Breaking the oven-handle habit is easy, and there are several much cleaner, safer alternatives for your kitchen layout:

• Adhesive or Magnetic Hooks: Place a few sleek, modern hooks on the side of your refrigerator, on the inside of a cabinet door under the sink, or directly onto the kitchen backsplash.

• An Over-the-Cabinet Bar: You can find inexpensive, padded metal bars that slip right over the top of your lower cabinet doors, keeping the towel handy but away from appliance vents.

• The T-Bar Towel Rack: If you have a little extra counter space next to the sink, a small freestanding towel stand keeps your linens neat, spread out to dry faster, and entirely separate from your cooking appliances.
