Oven-Baked 5-Ingredient Chicken Cobbler Pasta
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep the Station
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
2. Lay the Foundation
In the bottom of your prepared baking dish, scatter the uncooked short pasta in an even layer. Layer the shredded chicken directly on top of the pasta, followed by the frozen mixed vegetables. Do not stir yet!
3. Pour the Creamy Gravy
In a separate bowl or large measuring cup, whisk together the condensed cream of chicken soup with 2 cups of hot water(or chicken broth if you want it even richer) until smooth. Pour this liquid evenly over the chicken, pasta, and veggies. Ensure the pasta is largely submerged so it cooks perfectly in the oven.
4. Mix the Cobbler Topping
In a medium bowl, prepare the biscuit mix according to the package instructions (usually requiring just water, a bit of melted butter, and the included seasoning packet). Stir until a thick, spoonable batter forms.
5. Assemble the "Cobbler"
Pour or dollop the biscuit batter evenly over the top of the chicken and pasta mixture. Use a spatula to gently spread it to the edges. As it bakes, the batter will rise and create a stunning, cobblestone-like crust.
6. Bake to Golden Perfection
Bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the pasta is tender, the filling is bubbling up at the edges, and the biscuit topping is high, fluffy, and a beautiful golden brown.
Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before scooping. This allows the sauce to settle and thicken into a velvety gravy that coats every single noodle.
Chef’s Tips for Success
Pasta Perfection: Because the pasta cooks directly in the sauce, ensure your liquid fully covers the lower layers before adding the biscuit batter. If you prefer a saucier cobbler, add an extra 1/4 cup of water or broth.
Upgrade the Biscuit Crust: Brush the top of the baked biscuit crust with a little extra melted butter mixed with garlic powder and dried parsley right when it comes out of the oven for a restaurant-style finish.
Make it Cheesy: If you are a cheese lover, scatter a handful of shredded sharp cheddar directly over the chicken and veggies before pouring the biscuit batter on top.
