Why This Pasta Is So Easy
The secret to making a genuinely quick pasta dinner is organization. Start the pasta water immediately, then prepare the sauce while the pasta cooks. By the time the noodles are tender, the sauce should be ready to receive them.

You want a comforting meal with minimal cleanup.
Your pantry is running low.
You want something easy enough for a beginner cook.
You need a flexible recipe that can be customized.

For approximately 2–3 servings, you'll need:
8 ounces pasta
2 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup reserved pasta water
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional

Black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional
For extra flavor, you can also add:

Shredded mozzarella
Extra Parmesan
Step 1: Get the Pasta Water Boiling
Fill a medium or large pot with water and place it over high heat.
Add a generous pinch of salt and bring the water to a rapid boil.
Salting the water is important because it gives the pasta flavor from the inside as it cooks.
While the water is heating, gather the remaining ingredients. Since this recipe moves quickly, having everything ready before you begin cooking will make the process much smoother.
Step 2: Cook the Pasta
Once the water reaches a full boil, add the pasta.
Use spaghetti, linguine, penne, rotini, or another pasta shape you already have available.
Stir the pasta during the first minute to prevent the noodles from sticking together.
Cook according to the package directions, but begin checking it about a minute before the recommended cooking time. You want the pasta tender but still slightly firm in the center.
Before draining, carefully reserve about 1/4 cup of the pasta water.
This starchy water is an important part of the sauce because it helps loosen the cream while also helping the sauce cling to the pasta.
