Praline Crunch

Praline Crunch

If you love the combination of buttery caramel, toasted nuts, and a satisfying crunch, Praline Crunch is a treat you’ll want to keep around. This simple dessert combines crisp cereal with a rich praline-style coating made from butter and brown sugar, then finishes everything with toasted pecans and a touch of vanilla. Once baked, the coating transforms into a crisp, caramelized shell that gives every bite an irresistible texture.

Praline Crunch is especially useful when you need an easy homemade sweet for holidays, parties, bake sales, or casual snacking. It requires simple ingredients, comes together quickly, and can be broken into bite-sized pieces once cooled.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

There is very little complicated preparation involved. The most important part is making sure the butter and sugar mixture reaches the right consistency before coating the cereal.

This recipe is:

  • Quick and straightforward

  • Made with everyday ingredients

  • Crunchy and buttery

  • Full of toasted pecan flavor

  • Easy to make in a large batch

  • Excellent for gifting and holiday gatherings

  • Delicious as a snack or dessert topping

Ingredients

For the crunch mixture:

  • 6 cups crispy corn or rice cereal

  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves or chopped pecans

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Optional:

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup chocolate chips for drizzling

  • A small pinch of flaky salt for finishing

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Sheet

Begin by preheating your oven to 250°F (120°C).

Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

The parchment will make cleanup easier and prevent the caramelized coating from sticking too firmly to the pan.

Set the prepared baking sheet aside while you make the crunch mixture.

Step 2: Combine the Cereal and Pecans

Place the cereal in a very large mixing bowl.

Add the pecans and gently toss them together.

Try not to crush the cereal while mixing. The individual pieces should remain relatively intact so the finished snack has plenty of texture.

If you're using whole pecan halves, you can leave them as they are for larger nutty bites. Chopped pecans distribute more evenly throughout the mixture.

Step 3: Make the Praline Coating

Place the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Once the butter has melted, add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, corn syrup, and salt.

Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and the sugars have dissolved.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Once it begins bubbling, continue cooking for about 3–4 minutes, stirring frequently.

The mixture should become glossy and slightly thicker. Avoid cooking it for too long because an overly thick caramel can become difficult to distribute evenly over the cereal.
