Cream Cheese Squares

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the squares.

2. Make the Crust:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  • Use a pastry cutter or fork to blend the ingredients together until they resemble coarse crumbs and the mixture holds together when pressed.

3. Press Crust Into Pan:

  • Transfer the crust mixture into the prepared baking pan.
  • Use your fingers or the back of a spoon to press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the pan to form the crust layer.

4. Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • In a separate mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the cream cheese, and beat until well combined and smooth.

5. Spread Filling Over Crust:

  • Pour the cream cheese filling over the prepared crust layer in the baking pan.
  • Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the filling evenly over the crust, ensuring it reaches the edges of the pan.

6. Bake Until Set:

  • Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.

7. Cool and Chill:

  • Remove the pan from the oven and let the Cream Cheese Squares cool completely at room temperature.
  • Once cooled, transfer the pan to the refrigerator and chill the squares for at least 1-2 hours, or until firm.

8. Slice and Serve:

  • Once chilled, use a sharp knife to cut the Cream Cheese Squares into desired portions.
  • Serve the squares chilled as a delicious dessert or sweet treat.

Tips for Perfect Cream Cheese Squares:

  1. Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure that both the cream cheese and butter are softened to room temperature for smooth and easy mixing.

  2. Even Crust Layer: Press the crust mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the pan to create a solid base for the cream cheese filling.

  3. Chilling Time: Allow the Cream Cheese Squares to chill in the refrigerator for optimal texture and flavor before slicing and serving.

  4. Variations: Experiment with different crust add-ins such as chopped nuts or spices for added flavor and texture.
