Easy Peach Dumplings: A Delightfully Simple Dessert

Method:

  1. Prepare the Peaches:

    • If using fresh peaches, peel and pit them, then cut each peach into 4 wedges.
    • If using canned peach halves, simply drain them and cut each half into 2 wedges.
  2. Assemble the Dumplings:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
    • Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles.
    • Place one peach wedge at the wide end of each crescent roll triangle, then roll it up towards the point.
    • Arrange the rolled dumplings in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
    • Pour the mixture evenly over the peach dumplings in the baking dish.
  4. Add the Soda:

    • Carefully pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges of the baking dish, avoiding pouring it directly over the dumplings.
  5. Bake the Dumplings:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
    • Remove from the oven and let the dumplings cool slightly.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve the peach dumplings warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.

Tips for Perfect Peach Dumplings:

  • Peach Selection: Fresh, ripe peaches work best for this recipe, but canned peaches are a convenient alternative that still tastes delicious.
  • Dough: Make sure to seal the edges of the crescent rolls well to keep the peaches securely inside during baking.
  • Soda: The lemon-lime soda helps to create a sweet, bubbly sauce that complements the peaches and dough perfectly.

Variations:

  • Apple Dumplings: Substitute the peaches with apple wedges for a different take on this classic dessert. Use the same method and ingredients, just swapping the fruit.
  • Spiced Dumplings: Add a pinch of ground nutmeg or cloves to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a warm, spiced flavor.
  • Nutty Dumplings: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the dumplings before baking for added crunch and flavor.
