Slow Cooker Quiche: A Simple and Delicious Breakfast Delight

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking. If using a pre-made pie crust, carefully place it into the bottom of the slow cooker, pressing it up the sides to form a base.

  2. Whisk the Eggs: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (or half-and-half), salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined. This mixture will form the creamy custard base of your quiche.

  3. Add the Fillings: Stir in the shredded cheese, diced vegetables, and cooked meat (if using). Mix well to evenly distribute the fillings throughout the egg mixture.

  4. Pour the Mixture: Pour the egg mixture into the slow cooker over the pie crust (if using). Use a spoon to spread the fillings evenly, ensuring that they are well-distributed.

  5. Cook the Quiche: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and set it to cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until the quiche is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. The cooking time may vary depending on your slow cooker, so keep an eye on it towards the end of the cooking time.

  6. Cool and Slice: Once the quiche is fully cooked, turn off the slow cooker and allow the quiche to cool for about 10 minutes. This will make it easier to slice and serve. Carefully lift the quiche out of the slow cooker (if you used a pie crust) and transfer to a cutting board. If you made a crustless quiche, you can serve it directly from the slow cooker.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Garnish the quiche with fresh herbs for a burst of color and flavor. Slice into wedges and serve warm. This quiche pairs wonderfully with a fresh green salad, fruit, or a side of toast.

Tips and Variations

  • Vegetarian Option: Keep the quiche vegetarian by using only vegetables and omitting the meat.
  • Dairy-Free: Substitute the milk or half-and-half with a non-dairy alternative like almond milk or coconut milk, and use dairy-free cheese.
  • Flavor Enhancements: Add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of hot sauce to the egg mixture for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Store any leftover quiche in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual slices in the microwave or enjoy cold.
