Cream and Berry-Filled Pastry Balls

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

2. Prepare the Filling

In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. For a sweeter filling, add an extra tablespoon of powdered sugar. Set aside.

3. Prep the Berries

Rinse and dry the berries. If using strawberries, hull and dice them. Lightly mash some of the berries to release their juices, creating a more jam-like filling.

4. Roll Out the Pastry

On a floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry and gently roll out to smooth creases. Cut each sheet into 9 squares, for a total of 18.

5. Fill the Pastries

Place a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square. Add a few berries on top, being careful not to overfill.

6. Shape the Pastry Balls

Gather the corners of each square and pinch together to form a ball, sealing the filling inside. Make sure to close any gaps to prevent leaks during baking. Place the pastry balls seam-side down on the baking sheet.

7. Apply Egg Wash

Brush each pastry ball with the beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish. Sprinkle with granulated sugar for added sweetness if desired.

8. Bake to Perfection

Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. The filling should be warm, and the pastry crisp.

9. Cool and Finish

Let the pastry balls cool slightly on the baking sheet, then dust with powdered sugar for a beautiful touch before serving.

Tips for the Best Pastry Balls:

Berry Variety: A mix of berries adds a tangy-sweet flavor, but frozen berries work too—just thaw and drain them first.
Custom Fillings: Try adding lemon curd, Nutella, or chopped nuts to switch things up.
Pastry Care: Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use for the best puffing effect.
Seal Tight: Pinch the edges firmly to avoid leaks. Patch any cracks with extra dough if needed.
Reheat: These pastries are best fresh but can be reheated at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes to regain crispness.
Enjoy these delectable Cream and Berry-Filled Pastry Balls anytime you crave a sweet, satisfying treat! 💛
