Easy & Delicious Stovetop Bread Recipe – No Oven Needed!

How to Make Stovetop Bread

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This means the yeast is active.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 3: Let the Dough Rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 4: Shape the Dough

  1. Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oval loaf. Alternatively, divide it into smaller pieces for individual breads.
  2. Let the shaped dough rest for 15 minutes while you prepare the pan.

Step 5: Cook the Bread on the Stovetop

  1. Heat a large non-stick pan or cast-iron skillet over low to medium heat. Grease it lightly with oil or butter.
  2. Place the dough in the pan and cover with a lid. Cook for 10-12 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  3. Flip the bread, cover again, and cook for another 8-10 minutes until cooked through.

Step 6: Cool & Enjoy

  1. Remove from the pan and let it cool slightly on a wire rack.
  2. Slice and serve warm with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings!

Tips for Perfect Stovetop Bread

Use a heavy-bottomed pan – Cast iron or a thick non-stick pan helps distribute heat evenly.
Keep the heat low – Too high, and the outside will burn before the inside cooks.
Cover with a lid – This traps steam, mimicking an oven for fluffy bread.
Experiment with flavors – Add herbs, cheese, or garlic for extra flavor.
Store properly – Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
