Oven Baked Beef & Onion Foil Packet

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Tear off 4 large sheets of heavy-duty foil, large enough to fully wrap each portion.

2. Prepare the Onions

Place sliced onions in a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle with half the salt and pepper. Toss until evenly coated.

3. Season the Steak

Cut steak into 4 even portions. Pat dry with paper towels and season both sides with remaining salt and pepper.

4. Assemble the Packets

Lay foil sheets flat. Divide onions evenly in the center of each sheet, creating a bed. Place one steak portion on top of each pile. Spoon any remaining oil or seasoning over the steak.

5. Seal the Foil

Fold the foil tightly over the steak and onions, sealing the edges well to trap steam inside.

6. Bake

Place foil packets on a baking sheet. Bake for 20–25 minutes for medium doneness. Add a few extra minutes for well-done steak or tougher cuts.

7. Rest and Serve

Let packets rest for 5 minutes before opening. Carefully open (watch the steam!) and spoon the onions and juices over the steak before serving.
