INSTRUCTIONS:
1st Step – Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
2nd Step – Assemble the Pinwheels:
- Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry sheet.
- Arrange the slices of ham evenly over the mustard.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the ham slices, covering the surface evenly.
- Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the puff pastry into a log, like a jellyroll.
- Once rolled, slice the log into 1/2-inch thick pinwheels using a sharp knife. You should get about 12 pinwheels.
4th Step – Bake:
- Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart to allow for expansion.
- Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the pinwheels from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
- Serve warm and enjoy the deliciousness of these Ham and Cheese Pinwheels as a delightful appetizer or snack.
