Savoring Comfort: The Art of Crafting Smothered Pork Chops

INSTRUCTIONS:

st Step – Begin by seasoning the pork chops generously with salt and black pepper on both sides. This step ensures that the meat is well-flavored and seasoned throughout.

nd Step – Dredge the seasoned pork chops in the all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess. The flour creates a crispy coating when searing the pork chops, while also helping to thicken the gravy later on.

rd Step – Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the pork chops to the skillet, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Depending on the size of your skillet, you may need to sear the chops in batches.

th Step – Sear the pork chops for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden-brown crust. This initial sear locks in the juices and adds depth of flavor to the dish. Once seared, transfer the pork chops to a plate and set aside.
th Step – In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 5-6 minutes. The caramelization of the onions adds sweetness and complexity to the gravy.
th Step – Sprinkle the dried thyme, dried oregano, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using) over the onions, stirring to combine. These aromatic spices infuse the gravy with layers of flavor.
th Step – Pour in the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to loosen any browned bits. These bits, known as fond, are packed with flavor and will enhance the overall taste of the gravy.
th Step – Bring the broth to a simmer and return the seared pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the pork chops simmer gently for 25-30 minutes, or until they are tender and cooked through.

th Step – Once the pork chops are cooked to perfection, remove them from the skillet and transfer to a serving platter. Spoon the rich onion gravy over the pork chops, ensuring each one is generously smothered.

th Step – Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness.Serve the smothered pork chops hot, accompanied by your favorite side dishes such as creamy mashed potatoes, buttered green beans, or fluffy dinner rolls.Sit back, savor the moment, and relish in the comforting flavors of this classic dish.
