Instructions
Prepare Your Workspace
- Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter. This makes removing the fudge easier later.
Combine the Base Ingredients
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, milk, cocoa powder, butter, and salt. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
Bring It to a Boil
- Turn up the heat slightly and bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring continuously. Allow it to boil for about 1-2 minutes to thicken slightly.
Incorporate the Marshmallows and Flavorings
- Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the mini marshmallows, vanilla extract, and nuts (if using). The marshmallows will melt, creating a creamy, smooth consistency.
Pour and Set
- Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared dish. Smooth out the top with a spatula for an even finish.
Cool and Slice
- Let the fudge cool at room temperature for about 2 hours, or refrigerate it for faster setting. Once firm, slice into bite-sized squares.
Tips for the Perfect Fudge
- Experiment with Flavors: Add a teaspoon of instant coffee granules for a mocha twist or sprinkle sea salt on top for a salted chocolate variation.
- Customize Toppings: Top with crushed candy canes, sprinkles, or shredded coconut for festive occasions.
- Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate for extended freshness.
