Paula Deen’s 5-Minute Fudge: A Sweet Treat in No Time!

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace

    • Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter. This makes removing the fudge easier later.
  2. Combine the Base Ingredients

    • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, milk, cocoa powder, butter, and salt. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Bring It to a Boil

    • Turn up the heat slightly and bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring continuously. Allow it to boil for about 1-2 minutes to thicken slightly.
  4. Incorporate the Marshmallows and Flavorings

    • Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the mini marshmallows, vanilla extract, and nuts (if using). The marshmallows will melt, creating a creamy, smooth consistency.
  5. Pour and Set

    • Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared dish. Smooth out the top with a spatula for an even finish.
  6. Cool and Slice

    • Let the fudge cool at room temperature for about 2 hours, or refrigerate it for faster setting. Once firm, slice into bite-sized squares.

Tips for the Perfect Fudge

  • Experiment with Flavors: Add a teaspoon of instant coffee granules for a mocha twist or sprinkle sea salt on top for a salted chocolate variation.
  • Customize Toppings: Top with crushed candy canes, sprinkles, or shredded coconut for festive occasions.
  • Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate for extended freshness.
