Instructions
Prep the Slow Cooker
Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray or a small amount of butter to prevent sticking.Layer the Filling
Spread the entire can of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the slow cooker.Add the Cake Mix
Pour the dry yellow cake mix directly over the cherry filling. Do not mix! Spread it out gently with a spoon so that it covers the filling evenly.Drizzle the Butter
Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cake mix, doing your best to cover as much of the surface as possible. If you'd like to add nuts, sprinkle them on top at this stage.Cook Low and Slow
Cover and cook on low for 2½ to 3 hours, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbly. Resist the urge to stir—it bakes best untouched.Serve Warm
Scoop into bowls and serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Why It’s Called Minister’s Delight
The origins of the name are a bit of charming folklore. The story goes that this dessert was often served at church gatherings or to visiting ministers, where its crowd-pleasing taste was guaranteed to bring smiles and maybe even a recipe request or two. It’s budget-friendly, feeds a group, and tastes divine—what minister (or anyone!) wouldn’t be delighted
